FX-format compatible, fast telephoto zoom lens with a constant f/2.8 aperture that provides outstanding rendering performance for both stills and movie.

Features:

PORTABLE POWER
Good things come to those who wait. The NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S is Nikon’s new, fast telephoto zoom lens. Built with professionals in mind, it excels with sports, wildlife and landscape shooting and provides compelling rendering performance for both stills and movies alike. Constructed to impeccable standards of design principles and performance, at approximately 1,360g1, this lens delivers high resolution, stunning bokeh and superior point-image reproduction. Movie-recording performance is an equally high priority, with quiet operation, stable exposure and noteworthy compensation in shifting of the angle of view when adjusting focus. The results are poetry in motion.

This NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S pairs seamlessly with the Z mount system, allowing you to make the most of a large mount and achieve stunning optical performance. This lens is built to perform, and its lightweight but durable construction is endowed with dust and drip-resistant protection to be ready for all your adventures.

DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE
The impressive telephoto range lets you keep your distance and catch your subject matter undeterred, but zoom distance is only part of the story. The NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S delivers superb optical performance.

Gorgeous images of clarity with almost zero colour fringing, the inclusion of a Short-wavelength Refractive (SR) lens element attains highly accurate compensation of chromatic aberration and suppresses colour bleeding by refracting short-wavelength light that is especially difficult to control. This newly-developed SR lens is unique to Nikon and provides outstandingly sharp resolution stills and movies, while achieving a compact lens design. The lens thrives when shooting backlight and diminishes ghost and flare effects, thanks to the inclusion of Nano Crystal Coat and ARNEO Coat elements.

Not to understate other features, such as the multi-focus system and the new autofocus (AF) drive system which was developed to enhance optical performance and is a vital feature for the high-level aberration-correction performance the lens provides. Crisp, clarity is also derived from the Vibration Reduction (VR) effect equivalent to a shutter speed of 5.5 stops2 faster.

Whether you spot a peacock’s plumage amongst the trees or want to capture a magical wedding moment with stunning bokeh, the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S can realise your vision thanks to an extremely short minimum focus distance of 0.5 m at the wide-angle end and 1.0 m at the telephoto end.

POETRY IN MOTION
Capturing stunning movies is a walk in the park with the new NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S, thanks to a raft of essential features. Zoom in and out without the fear of losing focus as you shoot with enhanced tracking performance that allows you to focus on the subject continuously, and minimise shifting of the angle of view with focus-breathing reduction. Not to be underestimated, the lens operates smoothly and quietly thanks to the independent control ring, which allows for the assignment of a variety of functions.

READY FOR ACTION
This is a professional lens built with nifty operability in mind. The NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S is exceptionally lightweight and compact for a telephoto lens, tipping the scales at approximately 1,360g without the tripod collar – in keeping with trademark high-mobility and reliability of the Z series. Its relative light weight is not at the expense of robustness, thanks in part to dust-and-drip-resistance with sealing for various areas, including movable parts of the lens barrel. Of course, what is on the inside matters, and the employment of a diaphragm blade unit with driving mechanism on the lens means the aperture is accurately controlled via electronic signals; delivering constant, stable aperture control – even during continuous shooting.

FLEXIBLE FUNCTIONALITY
Ease-of-use is paramount for professional photographers and the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S certainly delivers. A well-placed lens information panel with adjustable brightness lets you quickly confirm various functions, such as aperture, focus distance and depth of field, so you can focus on getting the shots you need even in the dark. Shooting flexibility is a strong point owing to the inclusion of two Fn buttons that can be assigned as best fits your needs. Rounding it off, is a dedicated focus ring that is separate from the control ring to let you manually focus with ease.

1. Without a tripod collar.
2. Based on CIPA Standard: this value is achieved when attached to a 35mm-format camera with the camera’s VR function set to “NORMAL”, and when zoom is set to the maximum telephoto position.

OVERWHELMING RENDERING PERFORMANCE FOR BOTH STILLS AND MOVIES THAT FULLY DESERVES THE S-LINE DESIGNATION
Various lens elements that offer superior optical performance to realize high aberration-correction performance are generously incorporated. As a result, outstandingly sharp resolution is achieved even in the peripheral areas of the frame at the maximum aperture across the entire shooting range from close distances to infinity. In shooting wildlife, landscapes, portraits and sports scenes, even details of distant subjects can be accurately rendered, and the sharply focused main subject can be impressively emphasized utilizing the large bokeh delivered with f/2.8 aperture.

EXTREMELY HIGH RESOLUTION AT ALL ZOOM POSITIONS
In the optical system, various lenses that deliver high optical performance such as a newly developed SR*1 lens element, one fluorite lens element, six ED glass elements and two aspherical lens elements are incorporated. Via the adoption of a multi-focusing system*2, optical performance at short distances is greatly enhanced. With this system, sharp images without color bleeding can be reproduced at the focal plane regardless of shooting distance and subject, providing extremely high resolution.

*1 SR lens (SR: Short-wavelength Refractive): Nikon’s original SR lens is a high- and specialized-dispersion glass featuring characteristics to greatly refract light with wavelengths shorter than that of blue. By controlling short-wavelength light that is difficult to compensate, highly precise chromatic aberration compensation is achieved.
*2 With this AF drive system, because multiple lens focus groups are driven by multiple AF actuators, the position of the lens focus groups is precisely controlled. Even when shooting subjects at close distances, that is likely to produce aberrations, high-resolution images with intensively compensated aberrations can be obtained.

Despite being a telephoto zoom lens, the minimum focus distance of 0.5 m at the wide-angle end, the shortest in its class*, (1.0 m at the telephoto end) is realized via the adoption of the multi-focusing system. Because you can boldly approach subjects to take high-quality images, image expression utilizing natural bokeh and closeup shots including tabletop photography can be easily enjoyed.

*Among 35mm-format-compatible zoom lenses with 70 to 200 mm focal-length range and a fixed f/2.8 maximum aperture.

EXCELLENT TOLERANCE FOR BACKLIGHT
Both Nano Crystal Coat and ARNEO Coat, Nikon’s original high-performance anti-reflection coating systems, are employed. Ghost and flare effects caused by incident light from any direction are effectively reduced. This enables the capture of clear and crisp images even when a light source is located within the frame.

SUPERB MOVIE RECORDING PERFORMANCE WITH ENHANCED USABILITY
Superior operability has been pursued not only for still shooting but also for movie recording, resulting in comfortable recording. While achieving outstandingly high-resolution images equivalent to that of stills, quieter AF operation is realized with the refined AF drive system. In addition, focus breathing is effectively reduced during focusing and reliable zooming without losing focus is ensured. An easy-to-operate control ring to which a function such as aperture, ISO sensitivity and exposure compensation can be easily assigned has been adopted.

By employing a stepping motor in the AF drive system, even quieter recording is made possible. This enables users to continue recording without worrying about lens drive sound being recorded in the movie.

This lens was designed carefully considering operability during movie recording. Focus-breathing reduction function reduces shifting of the angle of view when adjusting focus, allowing users to freely change focus after setting a composition. Additionally, enhanced AF tracking performance enables users to zoom in and out without worrying about losing focus on the subject. Thanks to these features, users can concentrate on recording.

The control ring that is common to all NIKKOR Z lenses is separate from the focus ring. A function selected from various options such as aperture, ISO sensitivity and exposure compensation can be assigned to ensure smooth setting changes for natural movie recording.

OUTSTANDING MOBILITY AND RELIABILITY
Despite being a telephoto zoom lens with a fixed f/2.8 maximum aperture attaining high image quality, a lightweight body is achieved that provides outstanding portability when combined with the Z series camera. Also, with its robustness, realized by employing parts made of magnesium alloy for the lens barrel, durability and dust-/drip-resistant performance, photographers can concentrate on shooting in any situation with full security.

CAREFULLY DESIGNED BODY CONSIDERING DUST- AND DRIP-RESISTANT PERFORMANCE
Various sections including movable parts are sealed to achieve dust- and drip-resistant capability*. Fluorine coat that repels dust or dirt for easy removal even if it adheres to the lens surface is applied to the front lens element.
*Despite the design considering dust- and drip-resistant performance, absolutely perfect dustproof or waterproof performance is not guaranteed under all conditions.

VARIETY OF FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS THAT SUPPORT HIGH OPERABILITY
The lens information panel enables quick confirmation of aperture, focus distance, depth of field, etc. without looking into the viewfinder even in dark situations. Two lens Fn buttons are employed to which a wide variety of functions equivalent to those of the Fn1/Fn2 buttons on the camera body can be assigned. By facilitating the effective use of functions, shooting flexibility is greatly expanded.
